Net Meteringn in Pakistan

In September 2015, NEPRA introduced regulations for net metering (نیٹ میٹرنگ) in Pakistan, allowing consumers to purchase excess electricity units they generate and offset them against the units consumed from the grid.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) officially announced the Distributed Generation and Net Metering Regulations on September 1, 2015. According to these regulations, any customer connected to the national grid with a three-phase connection can benefit from net metering for small-scale Renewable Energy installations ranging from 1 kW to 1 MW. Net metering is a significant component of the Policy for Development of Renewable Energy for Power Generation 2006 in Pakistan and has been fully implemented. Section 8.4.2 of the RE Policy states that, subject to technical considerations and without discrimination, distribution companies (DISCOs) are obligated to enter into net-metering agreements with qualified end-users interested in installing Renewable Energy systems, upon request.
